Given the damage that religion has wreaked in our modern world—and no religion is exempt—one would think that in attempting to rehabilitate the role of religion in modern life, one would seek to avoid association with violence.
But instead, with “The Book of Eli,” that is what we get: Violence. Post-apocalyptic violence justified by the Bible. [...]

WHO stops using term “Swine Flu”; Media says, “What?”
April 30th, 2009 · No Comments
The World Health Organization (WHO) today announced that they will stop using the term “swine flu” to refer to the current influenza outbreak, in favor of the more technical term, influenza-A (H1N1). This was primarily in response to the Egyptian government—a government so profoundly stupid that there are no words in any language to properly [...]

I’m not sure where to start. Journalism is simply out the window these days and inflammatory language is all the rage.

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Of pigs and pit bulls:
Lipstick wars: McCain claims sexism
The McCain campaign quickly posted a mischievous video charging that the “lipstick on a pig” quote by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was a sexist reference to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Seems to me that Sarah Palin is the one that put the lipstick joke out there in the [...]

It’s Pronounced “Impaled”

Usually, the letters to the editor in the Rocky Mountain News are of a relatively vapid quality. And then, on occasion, we get crap like this:
Nightmare for Dems
Jim Schwartz, Centennial
The Democrats’ worst presidential election nightmare has occurred: They have been im-Palin-ed with John McCain’s vice presidential choice.
What the fuck?
Who on the Rocky’s editorial staff thinks [...]

Epic Fail of an Angry God
August 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Hand in hand with the lunacy that God uses weather to smite the sinful is the lunacy that by thinking hard enough, the invisible man in the clouds will read your thoughts and do your bidding. So we get what we had here a couple weeks ago, which is Focus on the Family praying for torrential rain of “biblical proportions” during Obama’s acceptance speech on Thursday.
